RECENT | The Adoption of IBC 1105.1.1What is the IBC?The International Building Code (IBC) is a set of comprehensive building standards developed by the International Code Council (ICC). It provides guidelines for the construction and design of buildings to ensure safety, health, and general welfare. The IBC is widely adopted across the United States and serves as a model code for local jurisdictions. Does the IBC Require Automatic Doors?Yes, the 2021 IBC includes a requirement for automatic doors in certain public buildings. Specifically, IBC 1105.1.1 mandates that public entrances in facilities meeting specific occupant load thresholds must have at least one door that is either a full power-operated door or a low-energy power-operated door. This requirement aims to enhance accessibility for individuals with various physical conditions.
